Lieutenant John Earley, of the Boston Police Department, was arrested on Sunday, May 21 by the Walpole Police Department for operating a car while drunk, according to the Boston police.
Another driver reported Earley's alleged drunk driving, Boston.com reports. When Walpole police arrived on the scene they found him passed out at the wheel, and when asked for his driver's license he handed over a lottery ticket instead.
Earley was charged with operating under the influence of alcohol and negligent operation of a motor vehicle.
He has been placed on administrative duty, police say.
The incident is under investigation by the Boston Police Bureau of Professional Standards.
